Innocent Little Games by Achille Devéria
Innocent Little Games: Redeemed Pledges is a suite of ten lithographs dated to 1840.
Achille Jacques-Jean-Marie Devéria (6 February 1800 – 23 December 1857) was a French painter and lithographer known for his portraits of famous writers and artists. The French poet and critic Charles Baudelaire referred to his portrait series as showing “all the morals and aesthetics of the age”.
Les petits jeux innocens: les gages tirés (Innocent Little Games: Redeemed Pledges) (1840) was one of Devéria’s earliest erotic portfolios, inspired by Pierre-Antoine-Augustin de Piis’s 1830 play with the same title.
