‘Devoted Domestics’, a company that is devoted to providing the finest in household servants. Butlers, maids and au-pairs, all screened to the highest standards of suitability and security. That’s what they offer, but all is not quite as it seems, because there is another layer to the business that makes the overt service seem like a sideline.

Brian and Angela are seeking just such a home help. The result is the arrival of Miss Olivari, a woman who is a specialist in training their ‘Devoted Domestics’ employees. A week or three to discern what the client needs and then she is supposed to train the new ‘butler’. But, though she seems perfect in every way, she soon starts to uncover Brian and Angela’s secrets in preparation for the arrival of the chosen butler, Larry, who will help in the preparation of the clients.

Because… In this world of topsy-turvy service, all is not as it seems! We quickly learn that ‘Devoted Domestics’ is a service that often works in reverse! Preparing the clients who hire the company for other rather more severe clients. Turning the tables on those that employ them, bending and breaking them, assuming control and draining them before finally selling them to others who pay a high price for intimate, personal slaves.

Miss Olivari, a wicked mature dominant, loves her work and it shows in both the exquisite results that she produces as well as in the efficient way that she twists her victims around her little finger. But, Miss Olivari has her own agenda as well, nothing is ever as it seems. Sadistic and selfish, a true dominant of the clearest water.

Meanwhile, other traps are being opened and readied to catch their victims, and in this world of duplicitous fraud there are stakes at play which are rather higher than most of the participants appreciate. Miss Olivari means to make some money and short circuit Devoted Domestic’s usual methods without ever realising that what is at risk is her own freedom. A serious infraction of the rules, a risky move that even puts her own freedom as a stake in the game.

This novel leans strongly to the Femdom and BDSM world view and can be regarded as rather more severe than most of my writings.

It was a small pamphlet that she found in her bank entitled ‘You can do it!’ that triggered the train of thought. It described the process of opening one’s own business. ‘Why work for someone who reaps all the benefit of that hard work and expertise that you bring to a business, when you could be your own boss?’

‘Yeah, why?’ she muttered to herself.

She was the one that made ‘Devoted Domestics’ work. She was the one that made sure that there were no complaints. She was the one who found so many of the customers. She was the one that had made Marge’s clever idea work really well.

Perhaps it really was time to strike out on her own?

‘Interviewing for home help, maids, nannies and au-pairs! You know how bad it is, I don’t have to tell you that!’ said Marge to her latest prospective client. ‘You trust with your children, your privacy, your property and your husband… if I might make so bold!’

The woman on the other side of the desk nodded her general agreement, which encouraged Marge to carry on in the same vein.

‘So… we are here to help. We do all the advertising, check the references, interview and test the applicants. Then we arrange supervision and controls before finally you get to meet them, being sure that the person that we supply is exactly what they say they are. It is this attention to detail that has brought us over a thousand clients of which over a hundred are currently making use of our services. OK, now that you’ve had the spiel let’s get down to what it is exactly that you are looking for…’

The woman on the other side of the desk smiled slowly and settled a little in the chair.

‘I think that I am looking for an au pair, a woman who lives in, someone who can take the burden of all of the housework and be there for my husband and myself at all times. We need someone to do all the little bits and pieces…’

‘Children?’ asked Marge as she glanced at the screen of her lap top. ‘None, yet!’
‘Any other domestic staff at the moment?’
‘Just the gardener one time a week.’

‘And accommodation?’

‘What you mean? For the au pair?’

‘Of course…’

‘We have a small bedroom that has an attached bathroom and of course she will be able to use all the other facilities of the house freely!’

Marge looked over the tops of her glasses and smiled, ‘You would like a female au pair then?’

‘Well, I suppose that I was just expecting…’

‘We have a number of men on the books who might well be suitable for you Mrs Ventris.’

‘Please call me Angela… I never thought that it would be possible to hire a male au pair. I suppose that he would be a butler then?’ Angela smiled and tilted her head to one side slightly.

‘Angela, there is little point in worrying about the name of the job. The main difference is that a butler would organise the whole household and the other staff. An au pair could be a nanny as well, but is a general factotum. It really depends what it is that you want,’ said Marge. ‘A man might have advantages as well. Generally harder working but less well organised. It can also help with the relationship with husband, wife and au pair.’

‘I don’t think there’s much chance of my husband having an affair with some domestic servant,’ said Angela with a smile. ‘He’s not that type of man!’

‘Of course, of course,’ said Marge. ‘I did not mean to suggest that there was any risk. However, it is a thing that a lot of women worry about and I like to cover all the bases. So let’s fill in your requirements and then I can get back to you with some prospects. I suggest that we start with the types of jobs that you want doing.’

‘Well just all the domestic stuff!’ said Angela with a slightly sour look at Marge. ‘Do we really have to go through such a long winded process?’

‘I’ll give you an example,’ said Marge. ‘If you want the au pair to go shopping then you have to trust them with money or a credit card. If you want them to live in then you have to allow them to disarm the alarms. If you want them to be on twenty four hour call you will need to accommodate the fact that they might have partners. If you…’

‘OK, OK,’ cut in Angela. ‘I get it! Let’s get on with it!’

‘Just one other small thing,’ said Marge. ‘It is important that you are quite frank with me. I will need to know what jobs, what restrictions, what living arrangements and what pay you will be offering. The more I know the details the better will be the fit, and the more chance you will be satisfied, I will have gained a long lasting customer and you will be saved all the hassle of having to look again in three months’ time.’

Marge clicked on her mouse and sat back in her chair.

‘I’ll order a coffee and biscuits and then we’ll begin. If we get this right then we can give you a domestic help who will really last.’
