The Dresden Album
The Dresden Album is a set of eighty paintings done in pen and ink, watercolor, and gouache, bound together in one album that originated in Dresden in the early 1930s.
It has sometimes been called Grand Hotel Budapest, and sometimes Plaisirs Défendus (Forbidden Pleasures). However there is no real title to the album. The artist is anonymous.
The album illustrates the forbidden pleasures that are enjoyed by a range of people from the peasantry through the royals, as well as a wide variety of ages and groups of people in the Weimar era of Germany.
