Wallis Simpson (1896-1986) was the twice divorced American woman that King Edward VIII of England abdicated his throne in 1936 to marry. Edward and Wallis met in 1931 and she became Edward’s mistress in 1934 while married to her second husband.

Simpson was well known to have had many “flirtations” with men and it was acknowledged during her lifetime that she was a serial adulteress and had been unfaithful to all three of her husbands.
